Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the money that is raised go?

The money Dick's Devotees raises benefits the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), where 87 cents of every dollar is used for research.

Are donations tax deductible?

Absolutely! ALS TDI is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Their tax ID number is 04-3462719.

Can I donate via check?

Yes! If you would like to do so, please make your check out to ALS TDI, put Dick's Devotees or Sam Halpern in the memo field and mail it to:

How much does ALS research cost?

Research for ALS costs around $100 per minute. One reason why it is so expensive is because most drug companies don't want to research the disease because most patients die in a short amount of time. As a result, most research is done by academic institutions and non-profits.
